7 Tips to Become Fluent in Lao

Learn how thinking in Lao can fast track your fluency and make it a natural part of your day.

Becomefluent

In my years of teaching, I've tried a lot of methods to help my students make real progress in their Lao.

Some worked. Some didn't.

Here are the key lessons I've learned along the way:

1. 🎯 Never forget your why

Set a SMART goal: What do you want to achieve one year from now? Why is this important to you? Write your answers down, and learn with intention. On down days, remind yourself why you started and remember that the results will be truly worth it if you stick to it.

2. 🧱 Build a strong foundation

Solid groundwork will make it easier to understand and learn more complex Lao structures as you progress.

3. 🔥 Stay consistent

Consistency looks different for everyone. However, if you burn yourself out or take long learning breaks, it will be harder to get back on track. Create a learning schedule that you can realistically maintain alongside your work and life commitments.

4. 👥 Find an accountability partner

No-one should learn Lao alone. Progress is always easier with the right support on your side, whether it's a family member, fellow learners, or a Lao community.

5. 💪🏼 Practice Practice Practice

I cannot emphasize this enough. This is super important for taking your skills to the next level. Gradually implement Lao in your daily life whenever possible to maintain it, not just thinking it in your head.

6. 💃🏻 Have fun

Find a learning method that works best for YOU. Alongside structured lessons, explore entertaining content to make your Lao journey more enjoyable. This could even include watching Lao movies or singing along to Lao songs.

7. 🚫 Don't be afraid to make mistakes

We all make mistakes. But don’t the best lessons come from them? Lao English School wouldn’t have come this far if it wasn’t for all the mistakes I made along the way. What matters is that you turn those into learning experiences.

So there you have it! Everything you need to become fluent in Lao (and finally reach your Lao goal). I hope you find these helpful. Feel free to bookmark this blog and come back to it when you need to.
